A little bit about me…
Hey there! My name is Connor Burns (he/him/his). I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), Educator and mental health advocate based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. My dynamic approach is fundamentally humanistic, person-centred and relational. My formal training includes Dr. Sue Johnson’s Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Dr. Gabor Maté’s Compassionate Inquiry Method, Richard Schwartz’s Internal Family Systems (IFS), as well as methods inspired by somatic-based therapy approaches and trauma-informed therapy. While these tools can be helpful, I believe in you and your ability to heal, in your inner strength and your intuitive wisdom.
My whole life has been a path of deeply exploring and yearning to connect with the human condition. This inquiry has led to hundreds of hours of yoga, philosophy and mindfulness training, meaningful volunteer opportunities with vulnerable populations, a Master’s of Counselling degree, and more than twelve years of experience working with at-risk and neurodivergent youth.
I am passionate about working with people from all walks of life. I offer sessions both in person and virtually, making my therapeutic services accessible to clients both locally and around the world. My experience has led to a distinct and unique approach. I explore a wide range of afflictions with a gentle yet direct, collaborative, compassionate and heart-centred approach.
I hold certifications in many modalities, including:
-
Dr. Gabor Maté’s Compassionate Inquiry approach is designed to support in uncovering how past experiences, especially trauma, shape thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
-
Dr. Sue Johnson’s Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an approach that can support clients improve their relationships by focusing on emotions and connection. Using this supportive and caring approach, EFT helps people express their feelings, understand each other better, and build stronger, more secure bonds. It’s often used for couples but works well for families and individuals.
-
Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) helps develop tools to manage stress, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. By gently focusing on mindfulness practices, like meditation and body awareness, clients learn to notice their thoughts and feelings. MBSR can help reduce emotional reactivity, improve self-awareness, and cultivate a more grounded, present-focused mindset, enhancing overall wellbeing and resilience.
